Experiencer survey

The r/Experiencers moderation team has partnered with Dr. Jim Segala to create the Experiencer Survey, aimed at addressing common questions around anomalous and contact experiences. With participant safety and privacy as top priorities, the survey employs AI to “sanitize” all collected data, stripping away any potentially identifiable details (such as writing style) and preserving only the core insights that advance understanding of these complex phenomena.

We are committed to making the survey results freely available to everyone, rather than limiting access behind a paywall reserved for academics or researchers. No identifying information is stored, except in cases where respondents voluntarily provide an email address to participate in future research opportunities.

As experiencers ourselves, and as people who work closely with other experiencers, we understand the importance of safety and privacy. Some respected voices within the Experiencer Community have previously discouraged participation in research, citing concerns about data exploitation and increased vulnerability. We believe, however, that the greatest risk to experiencers comes from a lack of knowledge about the nature of these experiences, which allows harmful narratives, confusion, and fear to persist.

We encourage all those who have had anomalous or contact experiences to consider participating in this survey. By contributing your unique perspectives, you help build a more complete understanding of these phenomena, benefiting both the Experiencer Community and others who approach the subject with an open mind. Your experiences are invaluable in reducing misunderstanding and helping others feel less isolated in their own experiences. Our ultimate goal is to empower experiencers and provide a sense of safety in navigating what can otherwise be challenging experiences.

FAQ

Who created the survey?

The survey is a collaborative effort between members of the r/Experiencers moderation team and Dr. Jim Segala.

Is this survey connected with Dr. Segala’s MUPAS study?

No, the survey and the MUPAS study are entirely separate. If you are interested in learning more about or acquiring a MUPAS device, please visit here

What is an “Experiencer”?

An “Experiencer” is someone who has engaged in information transfer with other intelligences from remote locations or times, or who utilizes extended perception to access a greater range of information from the wider reality. This includes individuals who may have encountered entities, received non-local information, or accessed perceptions beyond ordinary awareness.

What is the purpose of the Experiencer Survey?

The survey aims to gather insights into how anomalous and contact experiences are perceived, providing a better general understanding of these phenomena. By collecting and analyzing data, we hope to address common questions and promote a more comprehensive view of these phenomena.

Who can participate?

Anyone who identifies as an Experiencer, as defined above, is welcome to participate.

How is my privacy protected?

Protecting privacy has been a focus since the beginning, and the survey has been created with this as our top priority. All data is “sanitized” using AI to remove any potentially identifiable information, including unique writing styles, while preserving the essential insights you provide. Identifying information is only collected if you voluntarily share an email address to participate in potential future studies.

Will my responses remain anonymous?

Yes. We take multiple steps to ensure anonymity. Responses are anonymized in our dataset, and any identifiable information is removed unless you choose to provide an email address.

How will the survey data be used?

Survey data will be analyzed to explore patterns and themes in Experiencer phenomena. Our findings will be shared in a freely accessible format, contributing to the collective understanding of how Experiencer experiences are experienced. The data will not be sold or used for profit, and is not part of or connected with any government program or effort.

Will the survey results be publicly available?

Yes. Once we have enough data to generate any results, they will be shared freely to allow anyone interested in these phenomena to learn from the data. There will be no paywalls or restricted access. The results will be updated periodically as new responses are gathered.

How long does the survey take to complete?

This varies greatly depending on the thoroughness of your answers. Many questions allow free-form text responses, so it really depends on the level of detail you choose to provide in your responses. At a minimum it could take about 30 minutes of time, but you can save your survey and return to it later (unfinished surveys will be deleted after 30 days and won’t count towards the results).

Do I have to answer all the questions?

No, you may skip any questions that you feel uncomfortable answering. We want you to feel safe and respected throughout the process.

Can I withdraw my responses after submitting them?

You have the ability to delete your survey at any point before finally submitting it, but once the survey has been submitted we have no way to remove specific entries because the data will have been sanitized, making it impossible to identify individual responses.

Will participating in this survey open me up to further studies?

Only if you choose to provide your email address at the end of the survey might we contact you about future research opportunities. Participation in future studies is entirely voluntary.

I’m concerned about sharing my experiences. Is it safe?

We understand that sharing these experiences can feel sensitive or vulnerable. We take privacy and confidentiality very seriously and use comprehensive data protection measures to ensure your safety and privacy. Our goal is to empower Experiencers and build a secure platform for these important stories.
